Pune, India – Carolanne Lanouette of St-Colomban, Que. became Canada's second female weightlifter to win a medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Games, capturing the bronze medal in the women’s 58 kg competition.
Lanouette lifted 64 kg in the snatch and 85 in the clean and jerk to finish the competition with a total of 149 kg.
In other weightlifting action:
François Chénier, St-Constant, Que., lifted a combined 223 kg and finished eighth in the men’s 69 kg event. Chénier lifted 100 kg in the snatch and 123 kg in the clean and jerk.
