Pune, India - Matthew Hendry of Nokomis, Saskatchewan won his second medal in as many days, capturing a silver in a shoot off in the men's 25m pistol at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India.
Hendry, who became the first Canadian gold medalist in Games history, needed a shoot off to defeat Australian Aaron Wilson for the silver. The two competitors were tied with 547 points after the final round, but Hendry outscored his opponent 48-46 to earn the silver.
Lakshya Bansal of India won the gold with a score of 567.
“It was my first time in a shoot off and I found it incredibly intense,” said the 18-year old. “It was stressful, but I remained confident knowing that I had the ability to shoot better than I had in the previous rounds and that was the difference between the silver and a bronze.”

Christine King of Prince Albert, Sask. scored a personal best 462.8 en route to a fourth place finish in the women’s 10m air pistol final.
Geoff Litwin of Saskatoon, Sask. fell one point shy of advancing to the men’s final of the double trap competition finishing with a score of 104.
Michael Goodchild of Amherstburg, Ont. finished fourth in the men’s 3-position 50m rifle competition, scoring 1164.5 points. Damania Rushad of India finished 24.7 points ahead of Goodchild to earn the bronze.
