Pune, India - Qiang Shen, Ottawa, won his second medal in as many days, defeating Robert Frank of Australia 4-3 (5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7) to win the bronze medal in the men's singles table tennis tournament at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games.
On Wednesday he combined with teammate Ling Kun Yang for the bronze in the men’s double event.
“I expected a different colour of medal today,” said Shen, who lost 4-2 (9-11, 10-12, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8, 7-11) in the semi-final to Sathuyan Gnansekaran of India.
“My opponent tonight is a big player and he forced me to a play long shots which is somewhat outside of my comfort zone. He took away the short serves that I try to use and it forced me to beat him with long cross shots.”
