BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Simon Farbrother

A former City Manager with the City of Edmonton, Simon Farbrother was the Vice Chair of the Edmonton bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Canada. During his tenure with the City of Edmonton, he was involved in attracting many high profile sporting events to the city, including the Women’s World Cup of Soccer, International Triathlon Grand Final, multiple Olympic Qualifiers and other major international events.

Holder of a Master’s Degree from the University of Alberta, he is a registered Professional Planner. He has led significant organizations over the last twenty-five years, including the cities of Edmonton, Waterloo (ON) and Spruce Grove (AB). He has also worked in the private sector and been a teacher.

Mr. Farbrother also brings to his role with CGC significant experience on boards and commissions. He has been President and Board member of the International City/County Managers Association, President and Board member of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators and President and Board member of the Alberta Association Canadian Institute of Planners. He has also served on the Emerald Foundation, the United Way and Canada’s Technology Triangle.

Elected in 2016, Simon joins the CGC Board of Directors as a Director and chairing CGC’s External Representation Committee.
