Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards
The Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards launched in 2016 is an expanded Awards Program from CGC's original Award of Merit and Significant Contribution Awards.
OBJECTIVE(S):
- To celebrate and honor individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the Commonwealth sport movement in Canada and/or abroad.
- Increase the Canadian public’s awareness of the Commonwealth sport movement and CGC, and
- To provide a vehicle for fundraising.
AWARD CATEGORIES:
SPORT EXCELLENCE
Athlete Award: This award recognizes and celebrates outstanding athletic performances of individual athletes, an entire team, or an individual athlete within a team sport if their contributions are exemplary and warrant special recognition apparent from the remainder of the team. The athletes must have competed in a Commonwealth Games. The athlete/team must be a member in good standing with their respective National Sport Organization (NSO).
Coach Award: This award recognizes and celebrates outstanding coaching performance. The coach must have been the coach responsible for the athlete or team’s full-time training within a Commonwealth Games. The coach must be a member in good standing with his or her respective National Sport Organization (NSO).
VOLUNTEER EXCELLENCE
Award of Merit (Builder): This award honors individuals who have made distinguished, lasting and valuable contributions to furthering the aims and objectives of the Commonwealth sport movement in Canada and/or abroad. Click here for Previous Award Recipients.
SPORT DEVELOPMENT EXCELLENCE
SportWORKS Award: Recognizes the exceptional contributions of SportWORKS Officers who have made a significant contribution to sport development or development through sport and have used their SportWORKS experience to positively influence Canada’s sport system.
Beyond the Podium Award: Recognizes the contributions and achievements that a partnering organization or individual has made in using sport as a tool to drive development. This award is presented to a current or former CGC partner organization or Individual that has made significant contributions towards development through sport. Recipient selection for this award is based on the nominee’s contribution to social development in their community or country.
PARTNERSHIP EXCELLENCE
Outstanding Partner Award: The Outstanding Partner Award serves to recognize the extraordinary support provided to CGC/CGFC by a valued, external organization. Without that support, CGC/CGFC could not meet its goals.
