Danny Daniels

Danny lives in picturesque Sidney, BC and brings a wealth of expertise to his post as a CGC Member-at-Large. Remarkably, Danny is the reigning World Champion of the Indoor Pentathlon for the men’s 80-84 age category. He has also served on the IAAF Masters Committee for the past 12 years, and served as Head of Delegation for the Canadian Athletics Team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England. A senior administrator for both provincial and federal governments, Danny’s thorough knowledge of strategic planning, policy development, research and personnel management are invaluable contributions to CGC initiatives.

Erin Kasungu

Erin grew up in Newmarket, ON, and studied Kinesiology and Health Studies at York University while earning a spot on the varsity figure skating team. After graduation, Erin travelled to Grenada as part of CGC’s Canadian Sport Leadership Corps and then to Zambia, where she spent two years as a Right to Play Project Officer in a refugee camp. Upon returning to Canada, Erin joined the Sport Matters Group as Community Engagement Manager, and can be seen maintaining her active lifestyle in and around the Ottawa/Gatineau region.

 

 

Erin McLean

Erin is a Campaign Marketing Specialist at Virgin Mobile Canada. She has enjoyed a decorated career in sport that culminated in placing 4th at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the Canadian Women’s Softball Team. She previously represented Canada at the 2005 World Championships, 2007 Pan American Games, and the 2007 World University Games. Erin lives in Whitby, ON and brings her enthusiasm and passion for sport to the Member-At-large position.

 

Hannah Juneau

Hannah was born and raised in the Ottawa area and has been working in Canadian sport for the past nine years. Currently on contract with various sport organizations, Hannah began her career with the Canadian Sport Centre in Calgary, and has volunteered with the Alberta Youth Olympic Symposium and the Olympic Oval Organizing Committee since 1998. A former International Internship Program Officer for CGC’s International Development through Sport (IDS) program, Hannah was a Mission Staff member for the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. She also volunteers on the Board of Directors for KidSport Ottawa.

 

Heather Moyse

Heather is best known for winning Canada’s first-ever gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh event at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. In addition to bobsledding, Heather has earned 22 caps as a member of the National Senior Women’s Rugby team. Her strong ties to Commonwealth Games Canada date back to 2001 when she served as a Disability Sports Program Officer in Trinidad and Tobago where she helped develop and establish a camp for deaf and hearing-impaired children. Heather is originally from Summerside, PEI, and now resides in Toronto.

 

Jim Bradley

Jim is the CEO of Sport Alliance of Ontario which acts as the provincial federation of sport bodies. Jim has served on Mission Staff for six Commonwealth Games and nine consecutive Canada Games as a member of Team Ontario. Jim will also be representing CGC as Chef de Mission for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man. He resides in Ajax, ON.

 

 

Joe Halstead

Joe is a managing partner with the International Consulting firm JAGHAL Enterprises Inc., as well as the former Commissioner of the Toronto Economic Development Corporation. Prior to that, Joe spent 24 years serving in five different ministries with the Ontario Government in a variety of positions. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Place Corporation, the Canadian Olympic Association, and the Toronto Raptors Foundation. A Member-At-Large since 2007, Joe lives in Markham, ON. 

 

 

Lauren Capstick

Lauren is a PhD Candidate at the University of Ottawa in coach learning and development, and has previously coached swimming, soccer, and synchronized skating athletes of all ages and levels. Prior to pursuing graduate school, Lauren competed in synchronized skating at the national and provincial levels before earning a spot on the National Team in 1999. Today, she’s an NCCP Level 2 certified coach, and can be found helping skaters from three clubs across the National Capital Region. Lauren works part-time at the Mountain Equipment Co-op in Ottawa, and plays recreational soccer and volleyball in her spare time.

 

Lori Johnstone

Lori’s professional time is spent working as a policy analyst and consultant in the Wellness Branch of the New Brunswick Dept. of Wellness, Culture and Sport as well as undertaking project management and writing duties for a CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity) Canadian Sport for Life project. Previous roles include Athlete Services Manager for Canadian Sport Centre-Atlantic, National Program Coordinator for Racquetball Canada and former Chair of AthletesCAN. Lori is a True Sport Foundation Board Member since 2002. She calls New Brunswick home and has been a Member-At-Large since 2003.

 

Marg McGregor

Marg is the CEO of Canadian Interuniversity Sport, as well as a Board Member of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. A Member-at-Large since 2004, she also served CGC as Chef de Mission at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England. Marg’s many contributions to the Canadian sport system include coaching at the Canada Games and CIS Championships, along with serving as Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the 2006 Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy. Over her career, Marg has worked in leadership positions with CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity), Water Ski Canada, Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Synchro Swim Canada and the Athletics Department at Dalhousie University.

 

Martha Deacon

Marty is a Level 3 certified coach from Cambridge, ON, as well as a Past-President of Badminton Canada. She has participated in 12 international multi-sport Games, including the Commonwealth Games, Olympics, and Pan American Games. Martha’s involvement with Commonwealth Games dates back to Victoria, BC in 1994, where she was an apprentice badminton coach. In 2010, Martha served as Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Marty presently sits on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Olympic Committee and is professionally employed as Executive Officer with the Waterloo Region District School Board.

 

Mike Davis

Mike has enjoyed a 13-year marketing and communications career in the federal government where he currently serves as the Manager of Web Communications for the Privy Council Office. His educational background in recreation and health promotion has helped fuel a long-standing desire to get involved in sport, which has culminated in becoming a volunteer Member-At-Large with CGC. Other volunteer experience includes the Ontario Summer Games, World Junior Hockey Championships, Canada Summer Games, 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, and as a member of the Team Canada Mission team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

 

Mike Sutton

Mike is the CEO of The Physioclinic - a privately owned and operated company he started in Halifax, NS, which has since expanded to 15 clinic locations throughout Atlantic Canada. For more than 25 years, he has brought his physiotherapy skills to countless national and international competitions. Mike’s longstanding relationship with CGC includes Mission Staff roles at the Games in Auckland, New Zealand (1990); Victoria, BC (1994); and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1998). In addition to his sports medicine career, Mike is a prolific mountain climber, having summitted Mount Everest in 1993, Mount Kilimanjaro in 1992, Mount McKinley in 1992, and Mount Aconcagua in 1991.

 

Rachel Bedingfield

Rachel is a Physical Activity Consultant with the Department of Health and Wellness in Nova Scotia, and competed in varsity sports at the university level as both a soccer player and a cross-country runner. In August 2000, she represented Canada at the International Tetrathlon competitions in Ireland, Scotland and England, and has since competed in three marathons. Rachel was originally introduced to CGC through an International Development through Sport (IDS) internship in Kenya to help educate children and youth about HIV/AIDS, nutrition and health. A resident of Wolfville, NS, she has been a Member-At-Large since 2007.

 

Wayne Hellquist

Wayne is the CEO of the Regina Food Bank and the President and Principal Owner of Future Quest Consulting - a management consulting firm based in Saskatchewan. He has been involved in the development and administration of amateur sport in Canada for more than 35 years, and has been associated with Volleyball Canada for more than three decades, including 11 on the Board of Directors. Wayne brings his passion for sport and a genuine desire to help individuals achieve their potential to the Member-At-Large position which he has held since 2007.

 

Wayne Parro, ChPC

Wayne is the current Executive Director of Coaches of Canada, a key CGC partner during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He worked closely with the Team Canada Mission Staff to set up and run the “Coach House” – a venue to support Canada’s coaches during the Games. Wayne spends part of his time coaching hockey and baseball, and is actively involved with NCCP coaching development in both of those sports as well. His involvement with other national sport bodies includes the Sport Canada Ad Hoc Committee on Official Languages, NCCP Continuing Education Program, and True Sport. Wayne lives in Brooklin, Ontario.
