The 2018 Team Canada Program Executive Director is responsible and accountable for the overall planning, execution of Team Canada’s participation at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. The 2018 Team Canada Program Executive Director works in partnership with the Chef de Mission overseeing a team of staff, contractors & volunteers ensuring the mission environment is well organized, positive, energetic and athlete/coach centered enabling all Team members to contribute and perform to their full potential. Also, the Executive Director ensures the 2018 Team Canada program is in the forefront of the sports and mainstream media in the lead-up to and during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 2018 Team Canada Program Executive Director works collaboratively with National Sport Organizations (NSO’s), governments, domestic and international sport partners including the Commonwealth Games Federation and peer Games Associations, in ensuring the success of the Team Canada program for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Strategic:

  • Leads all aspects of the 2018 Team Canada preparation and on-site services for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, including the development and execution of the Mission Plan, coordination of athlete/coach support services and mission staff management (recruitment, training & recognition)
  • Oversees the development and execution of the 2018 Team Canada Communications Plan ensuring Team Canada is at the forefront of the Canadian media in the lead-up and during the Games
  • Liaises with national and international partners on sport technical matters, including Sport Canada, Own the Podium, Coaching Association of Canada, National Sport Organizations and Commonwealth Games Federation & Associations and the Local Organizing Committee

Operational:

Operational responsibilities are divided into three (3) timeframes: Pre-Games, On-Site and Post Games

Planning

  • Works with CGC’s High Performance Advisory Committee (HPAC) to review and revise, where necessary, Team Canada program related Policies and strategies.
  • Directs the Chef de Mission and Mission Team selection process
  • Works with the Chef de Mission to develop and implement strategies and tactics to ensure the effective management of the Canadian Team
  • Identifies needs, plans the itinerary and co-ordinates arrangements for site visit(s)
  • Co-ordinates all pre-Games meetings of Team Leaders, NSO Information Sessions and Mission Orientation including accommodations, travel, agendas, catering, minutes and follow-up

Financial Management

  • Develops and manages the 2018 Team Canada Program budget

Mission Operations

  • Obtains clothing supplier and work with them to determine Team needs, design and ordering of clothing package
  • Develops and implements an appropriate Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan
  • Works with Manager of Administration & Operations on Games Logistics (i.e. Accreditation, travel, accommodation, etc.)
  • Works with Manager of Medical Missions to ensure Medical Team selection and work with the Team Leader, Health Services to ensure medical review, athlete whereabouts and medical supplies & equipment
  • Works with the Coaching & Applied Sport Science Team Leader on all sport technical aspects relating to the team, including, but not limited to: review of sport facilities during site visits, sport entries, distribution of competition schedules and other sport-specific Games information, Games results, dealing with appeals
  • Works with the Coaching & Applied Sport Science Team Leader on preparation of the team in terms of Coaching and Applied Sport Science support – which would include advice to athletes and coaches regarding planning, training, environmental issues, nutritional considerations, and performance analysis
  • Works with Team Leader, Communications to ensure the appropriate flow of information between all parties involved and ensure those parties are well informed on all aspects of the Canadian Team and to ensure communications meet the linguistic requirements

Representation and Liaison

  • Is a 2018 Team Canada Program spokesperson, representing Team Canada with Government, the Sport Community and the General Public
  • Liaises with the Federal Government, Commonwealth Games Federation, Games Organizing Committee and National Sport Organizations to ensure the effective implementation of and adherence to Team Canada program policies and procedures

Evaluation and Documentation

  • Conducts research and short / long-term statistical analysis for CGC ‘s Team Canada program
  • Monitors Canadian Team activities to ensure they are consistent with approved CGC policies, procedures and CGC values
  • Prepares status reports for the Chef de Mission, Board of Directors and funding agencies
  • Prepares final evaluation report on program plans, results, learnings and recommendations for the next Team Canada
