The Sport Leaders Abroad Program
sends qualified and experienced Canadian
sport leaders (administrators, coaches, officials, etc.) to assist their counterparts in their fields/sports of expertise in countries around
the world.
 

Andrew Barrett

Leader Bio: Andrew was formerly VP Marketing for Molson Canadian. While there, he led the 'I AM Canadian' campaign which is regarded as one of the most influential campaigns in Canadian history. He has extensive expertise in the areas of marketing, sponsorship, and advertising. He has won several awards for his work including: Global Employee of the Year 2007, Marketer of the Year (Strategy Magazine 2008), Top 10 Marketer of the Year (Marketing Magazine 2012). Andrew is currently the VP Marketing for Samsung Electronics. Andrew enjoys running, scuba diving, and  is also an accomplished skier.

Placement Date: April 7-12, 2013

Placement Details: Andrew's placement took place the SASCOC offices in Johannesberg, South Africa over three working days and involved participation from two SASCOC members, as well as a representatives from Zambia and South Africa. The focus of this placement was to develop a strong brand value proposition for the African Commonwealth Games Organization that will be effective in supporting the Games. He also developed a more specific Brand Value Proposition for each Stakeholder Group.  All of the work done during this placement was working towards the goal of preparing the African Commonwealth Countries in advance of their presentation at the general Assembly in Glasgow later this year.

There is much work to be done to help define the role of the Commonwealth Games in Africa and build the awareness and passion for the games amongst all stakeholders (athletes, governments, media, sports federations, general population)…the work we did in the three day session will provide some good foundational work to aid in this task going forward.
