Placement Details

During his placement in Dominica, Bobby spent time working with youth sport officers, primary school teachers, academy coaches, and referees, with the goal of enticing more children to be involved in soccer. Bobby developed workshops which aimed to educate the coaches and officials while also teaching the children how to play together as a team. Sessions were held in the classroom and on the playing field, with a large turnout from children and coaches in the area. Bobby also spent time educating the teachers, coaches, and referees on the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model, and they expressed interest in implementing this plan in Dominica in the future. Many of the participants commented that this was the first coach development session they had received, and that there was a need for more formalized training in order to grow the game in Dominica.

During the week I worked with Youth Sports Officers, Primary School Teachers, Academy Coaches and Referees. These workshops were facilitated in an interactive manner, where small group tasks were completed in both theoretical and practical activities. Time was split between classroom and field. The referee's session was conducted solely in the classroom. The level of participation and enthusiasm from the attendees was high, all were eager to participate in the discussions, session planning and session delivery.
