BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Martha Deacon

DIRECTOR

Martha Deacon has been involved in high performance sport in Canada for twenty-five years, as an athlete, coach, Team Leader and Board Member. In 2010, she was Canada’s Chef de Mission at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, India. In addition to the 2010 Games, Deacon has been involved as a coach or Team Leader at three other Commonwealth Games (Victoria 1994, Kuala Lumpur 1998, Manchester 2002).

Deacon is very involved with the Canadian Olympic Committee, as an Executive Board Member (2009-present), member of the Finance Committee, the Coaches Task Force, Education, Youth and Community Outreach and Women and Sport. She has also been a member of Mission Teams at the Sydney 2000, Salt-Lake-City 2002, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games as well as a two Pan American Games (Winnipeg 1999 and Rio de Janeiro 2007).

Formerly the President of Badminton Canada, she is a recipient of the IOC Award for Education and Sport, as well as the Rolf Lund Jule Nisse Award for sport leadership, presented by the Sport Alliance of Ontario.

Outside of sport, Deacon has spent a quarter-century in education and is currently an elementary school principal in Kitchener, Ontario. In education, she has been a consultant, secondary administrator and professor at two universities.
