Bronze medal for Filion and Benfeito at diving World Series

BEIJING (march 23, 2012) – Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal continued to be models of consistency this season earning a bronze medal on Saturday in the women's 10-metre synchro final to conclude the second stop on the FINA World series diving circuit.

Ruolin Chen and Hao Wang of China won the gold medal with 360.66 points, Paola Espinosa and Alejandra Orozco of Mexico were second at 327.48 edging Filion and Benfeito, third at 326.10.

It was the third consecutive international medal this year for the Canadians. At the FINA World Cup in February they won the silver medal and last week at the World Series season opener they were also third.

The World Series is an annual four-stop series for the top-eight ranked divers in the world in each event.

On women's three-metre, Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., and Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., were sixth and seventh respectively. On Friday, they were third as a pair in the three-meter synchro competition.

The next stop on the World Series is April 13-14 in Moscow.
